IMPORTANT NEWS

Dear Member and Friend,

It's some time since I wrote to you all so I thought you needed updating on our current situation plus to let you know we are still here and doing our best to help the amateur world of theatre.

A recent meeting with the Arts Council of Wales, although very positive, made us realise that they no longer fund organisations like us. They now fund projects but not organisations on a regular basis. This means they will not fund Festivals or Summer School as they are annual events. Also, they do not fund publications so we can no longer print the winning play in the Crawshay Cup Competition. I am not criticising them just letting you know.

We have also been lucky enough to secure the voluntary help of a professional Fundraiser for the past year who has been doing his best to get us some funding for us. However, even he has drawn blanks!

Where do we go from here?

Our only source of income is Membership payments and since losing the Library these have decreased by two thirds. How can you help? You can help by encouraging any companies you know and individual members of your company to become members of DAW. It's not expensive, just £15.00 a year for individual and £25.00 for group membership, and it would help us tremendously. Membership information and forms can be downloaded from https://www.dramawales.org.uk/pages/aboutus.html

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Fred Skilton and the team of Future Shock The Unknown OUTCasts for their recent donation. They raised funds to represent Wales at the British Final of One-Act Plays in Belfast, N. Ireland in July  and donated the excess of £50.00 to DAW. What a lovely gesture and one that we really appreciate. Thank You.

I would also like to thank members Carol Shone, Beverly Miller, John Edwards, Carol Williams and Alan Benbow and anyone I have inadvertently left out, for their donations in 2017. In fact, anyone who has donated in the past to help keep us going this long since our funding was cut in 2012. We really are very, very grateful.

If you wish to donate, and it doesn't have to be a fortune as any amount will be appreciated, then you can do so by bank transfer, through our Virgin Money Account as if you are a tax payer as we can claim Gift Aid or even by cheque. It doesn't need to be a large amount, anything will be gratefully received. Please think about it.

Details of how to donate are below. Thank you.

Please continue to support us and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, at out webpage and please don’t forget to let us know what you are doing because if you are a member we will advertise your upcoming shows, auditions and any news you would like to spread through our extensive mail list. Email posters and information to newsletter@dramawales.org.uk

DAW is doing their best to keep up with things. Of course, nothing gets easier, in fact quite the opposite, currently we are truly struggling to survive and unless a miracle happens then we won't for much longer.

I hope you appreciate my writing to you is really our last resort, I really do not like asking for money but I have no choice.

Best wishes,

Teri.
Chair.
